Registration for the international competition of professional tasting of beverages Baltic Beer star 2017 is still open

The Baltic producers of beer, kvass and malt beverages still have a chance until August 30 to register their products for the 5th International competition of beer, kvass and malt beverages Baltic Beer Star 2017, where professional jury, consisting of 12 experts will select the most outstanding samples of beer, kvass and malt beverages in the Baltic market in 2017.

The Baltic producers of beer, kvass and malt beverages still have a chance until August 30 to register their products for the 5th International competition of beer, kvass and malt beverages Baltic Beer Star 2017, where professional jury, consisting of 12 experts will select the most outstanding samples of beer, kvass and malt beverages in the Baltic market in 2017.

          Traditionally the competition is organized by society of beer, malt beverages and kvass “Alus brālība” (The Beer Brotherhood) in cooperation with the Latvian Brewers’ Society and this year it will take place September 4th-8th at the Hotel Radisson Blu Ridzene. The purpose of the competition is to promote manufacturing of high quality, safe products and to improve offers for consumers, to increase the recognition and competitive ability of the products on the Baltic and European market.

          This year during the official Baltic Beer Star tasting sessions the jury will assess hybrid/ mixed beer style, kvass and non-alcoholic beverages, putting the emphasis on the evaluation of quality and compliance with the international requirements of beer kinds with various adjuncts and flavouring, beer cocktails with fruit and plant flavours, which are so popular among the consumers.

The field experts/ tasters, taking into consideration their knowledge on the quality of raw materials, technologies of production process and their influence on the flavours and quality of beer, will assess the looks, taste, aroma and nuances of the product - the overall compliance with the description and specifications of the Book of Styles of the Baltic Beer Star for beer, kvass and malt beverages, which was developed based on the description of styles and specifications of the “World Beer Cup” competition and lists of categories of “European Beer Star” competition and supplemented with the descriptions of kvass and malt beverages traditionally produced in the Baltic States. The field experts/ tasters will also share their experience for the improvement of the list, description and specifications of the Book of Style of the Baltic Beer Star for beer, kvass and malt beverages.

This year the chairperson of the jury will be Astrīda Ruško, who has dedicated all her professional life to beer and has worked at JSC “Cēsu alus” and beer brewery “Aldaris”. The jury will consist of the teaching staff from the Faculty of Food technology of Latvia University of Agriculture, technologists of the Baltic beer production, leading Baltic beer professionals/ sommeliers. 

          The best samples of the Baltic Beer Star competition will be awarded with medals, which were designed by Professor Bruno Strautiņš, Head of the Department of Sculpture of the Art Academy of Latvia and were produced at the joint stock company “Alpera” in Lithuania. The breweries, which have won this competition, may decorate their production with the images of these medals, thus demonstrating the quality and the competitiveness of their products to the consumers. If a drink is marked with one of the Baltic Beer Star medals, you may be sure about its quality – it will be definitely an outstanding sample for the harmony of taste!
